Ghostwritten

Writer: Alex ArmstrongAlex Armstrong

"From the bestselling author of Come with Me, four standalone horror novellas set in a shared universe!

In The Skin of Her Teeth, a cursed novel drives people to their deaths.

A delivery job turns deadly in The Dark Brothers’ Last Ride.

In This Book Belongs to Olo, a lonely child has dangerous control over an unusual pop-up book.

A choose-your-own adventure game spirals into an uncanny reality in The Story."

Ronald Malfi has become one of my favorite new authors. Whether he's writing about ghostly children or the apocalypse, he always seems to nail the tone perfectly. Add to that an engaging writing style, believable dialogue, and unforgettable characters, and you've got the perfect mix for some fantastic reading.

All the Malfi books I've read have been terrific, without exception, but this collection might be some of his best work yet. Or my favorite anyway. And maybe that's due to the format. There's something about novella-length horror that just seems right to me. Maybe it's the nature of the content, or maybe it has more to do with my own personality, I don't know. I only know that I've always been drawn to the gut-punch style horror you often find in shorter works.

And in this collection, Malfi uses the format to its full advantage, loosely weaving together four stories that somehow leave you fully satisfied and simultaneously wanting more. Of the four, I think The Dark Brothers' Last Ride is probably my favorite, but it's a seriously close call. All four are magnificent.

If you haven't read Malfi yet, this is a great place to start. And if you have, you already know what I'm talking about, and I can only tell you that this is an excellent addition to his already exceptional body of work. Either way, don't miss this collection!
